Benefits of CBD: Does it really work?

First things first- what is CBD? CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a trending ingredient the natural products industry and is the focus of a new area of cannabis research. CBD is one of many cannabinoids, or molecules produced uniquely by the cannabis family. Does it pop up on your drug test? No, just because it is a natural molecule we already have in our body, not like THC which is a tad bit stronger.

According to the NY times, CBD is advertised as providing relief for anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. It is also marketed to promote sleep. Part of CBD's popularity is that it purports to be “non-psychoactive,” and that consumers can reap health benefits from the plant without the high (or the midnight pizza munchies).

I would like to share the common benefits that researchers have seen when implementing CBD into your lifestyle and some of the benefits I have felt when using CBD.

Common Benefits:

  • Acne

  • Anxiety

  • Arthritis pain

  • Depression

  • Inflammatory pain

  • Muscle-spasticity in multiple sclerosis

  • Nausea and vomiting associated with cancer

  • Nerve-related pain

  • Sleep disorders

Although there is plenty of different studies with CBD still being announced, I have tried it with different companies and consumed it in a variety of ways and have reaped a few benefits. I have used tinctures, edibles, creams and powder form; my favorites have been the powder form and creams! I highly recommend athletes certain products that contain CBD to help the body recover in a more natural way. Some of the benefits I have from implementing CBD in my lifestyle consist of:

The doses may have to be a bit higher for me to feel anything, but incorporating CBD has definitely helped me and is a much better substance to enter the body rather than prescription drugs.
